Discover your true self.
Discovering you true self!
On this journey of enlightenment, I will help you discover your inner selves.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO “DISCOVER YOURSELF”?
“Being aware of your own self is getting close to the person deep down inside you.”
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
Being aware is a stepping stone to a fulfilled and a successful life. It takes you closer to your purpose in life. Without a purpose, it’s possible to get a feeling similar to that of running on a treadmill, a journey which takes you nowhere.
Finding out “why you do what you do” is a way to reconnect your inner selves, it brings meaning to your lives, making it purposeful.
We definitely do not want our Journeys without a Destination!
BUT HOW TO DISCOVER YOURSELF?
To begin with, I want you to think about these questions.
1. Are you happy with the person you’ve become?
It’s difficult to get a yes/no answer to this, but after a real introspection, I am sure you would be close to answering this question right.
We often take decisions for ourselves, in a way we are expected to and depending on how that would affect the people around us, mainly our beloved.
We realise that even the smallest of our decisions are largely impacted by the external factors.
Here are some tips you could use!
1. MAKING YOUR OWN CHOICES
I used to be someone who would end up doing things the way others wanted me to. It was mainly because I never gave much importance to my preferences. I was least bothered to value my preferences. I was so much used to getting adjusted to people around me that resulted in compromising a lot. It’s not that I don’t want to adjust now, but I would like to have a choice, my choice. Hence nothing made me feel satisfied.
I started looking for things that would give me a fulfilling feeling.
And guess what!
I found a way. It’s simple!
Try everything, and find out what you like the most.
Reading books of different genres, trying different cuisines, trying new sports, learning about various study fields and much more..
I am still trying them out, and with this I am getting better at making choices, which I don’t regret.
2.Keeping a Journal.
Our emotional state is never constant. To control our emotions, rather than letting it control us, it's necessary, we keep a track of our emotional well-being. If you know it in advance, you could be able to deal with your emotional changes in a better way when and where essential, because emotions do have the power of turning you upside down,
You could do it by simply noting down “how you feel and when”. The moment you see a transition in your thoughts from positive to negative, make a note of what could have caused the change in your behaviour or attitude.
Most of the times, it is the trivial things that worry you and by this you could fix it.
How does journaling help you?
When you review the points you noted, you will be able to examine your emotional and mental state, also making you aware of your Behavioural pattern.
Eventually, you’ll know exactly what makes you change your thoughts/behaviour throughout the day. Knowing it before hand, you'll be able to prevent the negative effect on your mind. Same like the immune cells in our bodies that help us fight the foreign bodies that harm our bodies.
Trust me, it works! It is working for me.
3. HAVE IT “YOUR WAY!
You will not agree more, if I say, “ We all have things that we have done the way they are supposed to be done, and not the way you wanted” Because that's the so called “right way” of doing it.’ However, Neither does this guarantee happiness nor improved performance. It doesn’t even feel real. You’ll see here that again the outer forces are affecting the way we perform our actions, impacting our lives at large.
If you think, doing things a certain way would bring you better results, I would suggest you to keep up with things you believe without underestimating yourselves and you can have your own way of resolving things. Just do it your way and not as per the convention. Only then could you bring originality to your work. As you know it,
"No one is you, and that is your power."
4.Finding what you are good at.
Usually the things which we are good at, could come to us naturally or something that we were exposed to during our childhood days. This leaves us with few options to choose when it comes to our career options or while taking up jobs. In reality, you never know what you are good at unless you try new things.
Including some new activities every day would help you have a holistic approach of doing the tasks assigned to you, rather than doing them from one perspective.
Make a list of all small and big things you wish to learn. And try to learn them, whenever you have time.
It is essential to recognise our abilities, strengths and weaknesses, as this makes it easier to make choices and stick to it. Examining the smallest of the battles of our lives, makes us aware of our strengths and weaknesses. This awareness help us in almost every aspect of our lives, personal or professional. Saves a lot of regret.
Let’s uncover our true selves and find the “us” beneath the prejudices, stereotypes and the societal restrictions layered upon us.
I have some really interesting posts coming ahead. Stay with me and learn.
